Arbor Day

The Garden Club started donating trees to the town of Hingham in 1961! Sometimes, the club donated more than one tree for Arbor Day. Our contributions helped Hingham earn the distinction of being a Tree City, a program that started nationally in 1978. Historically, Arbor Day is a day set aside to plant trees and recognize their importance in the environment. Each year, our members enjoy celebrating Arbor Day with the town and bonding with fellow Garden Club members and the Hingham Department of Public Works as we work together to plant another tree!

Garden Therapy

The Garden Club hosts floral arranging events several times a year for Hingham senior citizens living in local senior care facilities. The Garden Club provides all the flowers, tools, expertise, and enjoyment for our elderly friends.

Junior Gardeners

This is a fun committee that aims to share the love of plants and flowers with Hingham’s youth in grades three through five. Junior Gardeners meet six times a year in the Hingham Library’s Children’s Craft Room from 4 to 5 pm. The group plans and hosts seasonal crafts for about 12 students in partnership with the Hingham Public Library’s Children’s Department.

Library and Center for Active Living Flowers

Members of the Garden Club enjoy creating a weekly flower arrangement to welcome visitors and staff at the main desk of the Hingham Public Library. A seasonal arrangement is also provided once a month for Hingham seniors to enjoy at the Center for Active Living.

Plant A Row

Our Plant A Row program invites Garden Club members to grow and share fresh produce, herbs, and flowers with the Hingham Food Pantry. Since 2021, members have consistently provided seasonal donations that nourish and comfort local families.
